IFC to bill of quantities — free online BoQ from any BIM model
A bill of quantities is a grouped, subtotalled schedule of everything in the model, priced or unpriced. BIMCamel builds one from any IFC in the browser: choose the columns, group by storey, class or type with subtotals at every level, merge identical items into single lines with counts, and export the result as Excel, CSV or a report-grade PDF.
Quantities come from the model's own Qto sets where they exist and are measured from geometry where they don't — every row says which. Attach rates and the BoQ becomes a priced document with a visible markup ladder to the grand total.
What the exported BoQ contains
- Your columns — attributes, property-set values, and unit-scaled quantities (count, length, area, volume).
- Multi-level grouping with a subtotal row per group and a grand total that reconciles with the visible lines.
- One row per element, or identical items merged into one line with a count — an explicit choice, because they are two different documents.
- With rates attached: priced line items, per-item waste, and the markup build-up (preliminaries, overheads and profit, contingency, VAT) shown step by step.
- Provenance — whether each quantity was authored in the model or measured from geometry — plus an honest list of anything that couldn't be priced.
Excel that stays useful
The Excel export writes real numbers, not text that looks like numbers — so the recipient can re-sum, sort, pivot and extend the workbook. A capped free-tier export says so inside the file, and its totals still describe the whole model, never just the rows that fit.
Why not just use my authoring tool's schedules?
If you authored the model in Revit or Archicad, their schedules are good — use them. The gap this fills is the model someone else sent you: a consultant's IFC you need to quantify and price without buying and learning another desktop licence. It is also the fastest path when all you need is a defensible document this afternoon.
Frequently asked questions
Does it follow NRM2 / SMM7 / a national measurement standard?
No — it produces a pragmatic, traceable schedule grouped the way you choose, not a standard-compliant tender BoQ. For formal measurement-standard work you still want a QS and a QS tool; for feasibility, option comparison and early cost advice, this gets you a defensible document in minutes.
Can I get the BoQ without prices?
Yes. Rates are optional — without them the export is a quantity-only BoQ. Attach a rate book when you want the priced version; the document gains the cost columns and the markup ladder.
Which formats can I export?
Excel (real numeric cells, frozen headers, subtotal rows), CSV (flat rows for importing elsewhere), and PDF (cover page, running headers, page numbers). Every row exports on every tier; free exports carry BIMCamel branding and Pro removes it.
What happens to my file after processing?
Your file is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on our servers. Guest uploads are stream-only — the working files are deleted as soon as your download finishes. Free accounts keep results for 7 days; Pro keeps them 90 days and Team 180 days. Files are never shared with third parties or used to train AI.
