How to Automate Your BIM Workflow with Saved Pipelines

Chain BIM tools — clean, validate, clash, convert, notify — into a saved pipeline and re-run it on every revision automatically. The repeatable BIM workflow you used to script by hand, in your browser.

If you find yourself running the same sequence of operations every time you receive a new model, pipelines let you save that workflow and reuse it.

What is a pipeline?

A pipeline is a saved list of operations that run in order. For example, your weekly model cleanup might look like this:

  1. Delete annotation elements.
  2. Remove unnecessary metadata.
  3. Optimize the model to reduce file size.
  4. Save the result.

Instead of clicking through these steps every time, you save them as a pipeline and run it with one click.

How to create a pipeline

  1. Switch to the PIPELINE tab in BIMCamel.
  2. Add operations in the order you want them to run. Configure each one (for example, select which element types to delete).
  3. Save the pipeline with a descriptive name.
  4. Next time, upload a new file and run the saved pipeline.

Using pipelines inside pipelines

The Run Pipeline tool lets you call a saved pipeline as a step inside another pipeline. This is useful for building complex workflows from reusable building blocks.

Real-world examples

  • Weekly delivery cleanup: Remove annotations, strip sensitive metadata, optimize, save.
  • Coordination prep: Keep physical elements only, remove materials, simplify geometry, export to glTF.
  • Archival package: Run health check, repair GUIDs, upgrade to IFC4, save.

Pipelines save time and ensure consistency. Every file goes through the exact same process, every time.
