Open an RVT file online — view Revit models in your browser, no Revit needed
Someone sent you a Revit .rvt and there is no Revit on the machine in front of you. Drop the file here and BIMCamel converts it to IFC on its servers, then opens it in the browser viewer with its levels, elements and parameters. Nothing to install, no Autodesk licence, and it works the same on a Mac, a locked-down office PC or a laptop on site.
Revit projects saved in Revit 2021 to 2027 open. Revit files can be up to 25 MB without an account, 50 MB with a free one and 100 MB on a paid plan. Viewing is read-only, so the RVT is never changed, and the IFC it was turned into is yours to download or keep in your workspace.
How to open an RVT file without Revit
- Drop the .rvt on the Revit converter, on the viewer, or on any upload area on BIMCamel. They all send it to the same place.
- The file is read on the server and written out as IFC. Big models take longer, and the page shows how far it has got.
- The model opens in the viewer by itself when it is done. Signed in, save it to your workspace, where it is listed as an RVT next to your IFC models.
What you see once it's open
- The model tree, by level: Revit levels become storeys and every element sits on its level, so the tree reads like Revit's.
- Every element's parameters: instance and type parameters as property sets, one per Revit parameter group, with Category, Family and Type alongside.
- The shapes Revit saved, coloured by their Revit material, with sections, measurements and a level-by-level plan cut.
- Revit's own GlobalIds on every element, so an issue you raise here points at the same element in Revit.
Where it stops
- Revit 2021 to 2027 only. An older file has to be opened and saved in a newer Revit first.
- Revit projects (.rvt) only. Families (.rfa) and templates (.rte) don't open, and linked models are separate files, so open each one.
- Geometry comes from the 3D graphics saved in the file, as meshes. You can look, measure and check, but this isn't a way to edit the Revit model.
- Revit files can be up to 25 MB without an account, 50 MB with a free one and 100 MB on a paid plan. Conversions run a few at a time, so at busy moments you may wait in line.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open an RVT file without Revit?
Yes. Drop the .rvt on this page's converter or on the viewer. It is converted to IFC online and opens in the browser with its levels, elements and parameters. You don't need Revit, an Autodesk account or a Windows machine.
Which Revit versions can I open?
Files saved in Revit 2021 to 2027. For an older file, open it in a newer Revit and save it, then upload that copy.
Is it free?
Yes. Opening an RVT works on every plan, including as a guest. Each conversion counts as one run of your daily allowance, and paid plans are served first when conversions are queued. File size is capped per plan.
Can I get the model out as IFC?
Yes. The model opens from an IFC, and you can download that IFC (IFC4 by default, or IFC4.3 or IFC2x3 from the converter's settings) or save it to your workspace.
What happens to my file after processing?
Your file is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on our servers. Guest uploads are stream-only — the working files are deleted as soon as your download finishes. Free accounts keep results for 7 days; Pro keeps them 90 days and Team 180 days. Files are never shared with third parties or used to train AI.
