How to Generate 2D Floor Plans from a 3D IFC Model

Automatically create clean floor plan drawings from your BIM model, no CAD software required.

Creating floor plans usually means opening CAD software, setting up views, and manually adjusting layers. BIMCamel can generate 2D floor plans directly from your 3D IFC model.

How it works

  1. Upload your IFC file.
  2. Run IFC Viewer to confirm the model has correct storey definitions. The tool uses storeys to determine which elements appear on each plan.
  3. Open the Export Floor Plans (SVG) tool.
  4. Click Run. BIMCamel slices the 3D model at each floor level and produces an SVG drawing for each storey.

What you get

  • One SVG file per floor, showing walls, doors, windows, columns, and other elements in plan view.
  • Clean vector graphics that scale to any size without losing quality.
  • Files you can open in any browser, Illustrator, Inkscape, or presentation tool.

Common uses

  • Quick floor plans for a proposal or presentation.
  • Tenant layouts for facility management.
  • Fire safety plans showing exits and corridors.

SVG is a web-friendly format, so you can embed these plans directly on a website or in a report.
