Free online IFC, RVT and NWD viewer — no install, no account, in your browser
Open an IFC, Revit RVT or Navisworks NWD model in a 3D viewer with a project tree, properties panel, and model stats. RVT and NWD files are read online and open straight in the viewer.
A free online IFC viewer that opens in your browser — view IFC files online without installing desktop BIM software and without creating an account. A sample building is already loaded on this page, so you can try the project tree, properties panel, sections, and measurements before uploading anything; when you're ready, drop in your own IFC2x3, IFC4, or IFC4.3 file and explore it the same way.
It covers the everyday job of opening an IFC file when you don't have — or don't want to launch — a BIM authoring seat: a consultant sends a model and you need to see what's inside, a site engineer wants to check a dimension on a laptop, a coordinator wants to eyeball an export before running validation. Viewing is read-only, so the file is never modified, and inspecting a model doesn't count against your daily run limit.
Revit and Navisworks files open here too. Drop a Revit .rvt or a Navisworks .nwd and it is converted to IFC on BIMCamel's servers first, then opens in this viewer with its properties and model tree. You don't need Revit or Navisworks installed.
When to reach for it: When you need a quick overview of what's inside an IFC file — how many elements, which types, what schema version, and building structure.
What you get: A detailed summary: schema version, total elements, class breakdown, building hierarchy, storeys, and coordinate information.
Example: Spin up a model to check storey structure and element counts before running a tool.
Open Revit RVT and Navisworks NWD files in the same viewer
The viewer draws IFC, so a Revit or Navisworks file takes one extra step, and it happens for you: drop the .rvt or .nwd on the viewer, the upload area or your workspace, and it goes to the matching online converter, which writes an IFC and opens it here when it's done.
- Revit .rvt from Revit 2021 to 2027: levels become storeys, parameters become property sets, and every element keeps the GlobalId Revit's own IFC export gives it.
- Navisworks .nwd: the selection tree becomes the model tree, item properties become property sets, and colours and materials come across.
- Each conversion counts as one run of your daily allowance once it converts and opens; a failed or cancelled one doesn't, and opening the converted model again is free. Conversions run a few at a time, so at busy moments you may wait in line.
- Signed in, a file you drop on the viewer, an upload area or your workspace is saved to your workspace once it's converted, and is listed there with the Revit or Navisworks file it came from.
Everything you need to inspect an IFC model
The viewer is the same surface that fronts the rest of BIMCamel's tools, so it carries full inspection features rather than a thumbnail preview:
- Project tree — the spatial hierarchy (project → site → building → storey) plus a by-class view (every IfcWall, IfcDoor, …), with per-branch show/hide and click-to-select that opens the element's properties automatically.
- Properties panel — click any element to read its property sets, quantity sets, and material data, with a search box for finding one parameter in a long list.
- Levels — a level navigator lists every IfcBuildingStorey in the file; pick one and the viewer cuts a plan view just above that storey and frames it top-down.
- Sections — cut live section planes along any of the three axes, drag them through the model, and flip or delete each plane individually.
- Measure — length, area, and angle measurements, switchable between metric and imperial units on the fly.
- Model stats — a file-info panel reports the schema version, file size, total element count, storeys, and a breakdown by element class.
Display modes for models that are hard to read
Pale IFC materials — white walls, light concrete — are notoriously hard to see against a bright canvas. The Display tray collects the view controls desktop viewers scatter across menus:
- Hide, Show all, and Isolate — strip the view down to the elements you care about.
- Ghost — render everything except your selection as a faint shell so picked elements pop.
- Colour by class — every IFC class gets a deterministic colour, with an on-screen legend.
- Mono (clay) shading — one uniform clay tint across the whole model so massing reads clearly.
- Background presets — Light, Dim, Slate, and Ink backdrops with matched grid colours; the viewer remembers your pick.
Try it without a file — the sample building loads instantly
This page is the rare tool landing that IS the tool: open it as a guest and a labelled sample building loads automatically with the full toolbar live. Orbit it, open the project tree, click through properties, cut a section — every button behaves exactly as it will on your own file. When you're ready, use Open your own IFC and the sample steps aside.
There's no watermark, no trial clock, and no account gate on viewing. A free account raises the upload cap and daily runs, but the viewer itself is the same on every tier. You can also save selections as named groups and re-highlight them later — useful when a review keeps returning to the same handful of elements.
From viewing to sharing, comparing, and issue tracking
Because the viewer fronts the whole BIMCamel toolbox, the model you're looking at is one click away from everything else — no re-upload:
- Share it — generate a read-only viewer link with the Share IFC File tool so a client or subcontractor can open the model with no software at all.
- Track issues — open the same model in the BCF issues tool to create, assign, and export BCF 2.1 issues that round-trip into any BCF-compatible coordination tool.
- Compare revisions — diff last week's file against today's with Compare IFC Files and see what was added, deleted, or moved.
- Validate, clean, convert — run a model health check before delivery, reduce the file size, or export to Excel or glTF, all from the same upload.
Opening big IFC files — an honest note on performance
Geometry is tessellated on BIMCamel's servers and streamed to your browser, so opening a model doesn't lean on your workstation the way desktop viewers do — but a very heavy federation is still a lot of triangles for any machine to draw. If a file feels sluggish to orbit, run it through Reduce IFC File Size first: the Light preset keeps geometry, properties, and materials and removes only redundant data, which typically makes both viewing and every downstream tool noticeably faster. Splitting a huge federation by storey or discipline is the other proven fix.
Upload caps are the only viewing limit: 25 MB as a guest, 100 MB with a free account, 500 MB on Pro, 1 GB on Team.
How to view an IFC file online
- Upload your IFC file
- The file information is displayed automatically
- Review schema, element counts, storeys, and classes
Under the hood
BIMCamel parses IFC files in the browser using the open-source web-ifc engine and renders models with @thatopen/components + three.js. Heavy operations (clean / optimise / validate / convert) run on disposable server-side workers using the same web-ifc stack plus our own .NET pipeline; results stream back to your browser as soon as they're ready. Uploads sit on our servers only as long as your tier's retention window allows and are never used to train AI.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free online IFC viewer that doesn't need an account?
Yes — this page. The viewer is free, loads a sample building instantly, and opens your own IFC files without a signup: guests can upload files up to 25 MB. A free account raises the cap to 100 MB, and viewing itself is identical on every tier — no watermark, no trial clock.
Can I open an IFC file without Revit or other desktop BIM software?
Yes. The viewer runs in any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) on Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS, and iPad — nothing to install, no licence, no plugin. Upload the IFC and it opens with the project tree, properties panel, and full navigation tools.
Can I open a Revit RVT or Navisworks NWD file here?
Yes. Drop the .rvt or .nwd on the viewer and it is converted to IFC online, then opens in the viewer with its properties and model tree. Revit files from Revit 2021 to 2027 are supported (200 MB on a paid plan), and you don't need Revit or Navisworks installed. Each conversion counts as one run of your daily allowance, only once it converts and opens.
Which IFC versions can I view?
IFC2x3, IFC4, and IFC4.3 — the schema versions exported by essentially every AEC authoring application. The file-info panel reports which schema your file actually uses, which is worth checking before a downstream platform rejects it.
Does viewing a file count against my daily limit?
No. Viewing and inspecting are read-only and don't count as processing runs — you can open and explore as many IFC files as you like, even as a guest. What draws from the daily allowance: tools that produce an output (clean, convert, validate, and so on), converting a Revit or Navisworks file (once, when it converts and opens, never again for reopening it), downloading a Revit model's sheets, views or schedules, and creating a share link.
What's the maximum IFC file size?
Up to 25 MB as a guest, 100 MB with a free account, 500 MB on Pro, and 1 GB on Team. The caps are on upload size only — every tool itself is available on every tier.
The model is slow to open or orbit — what can I do?
Heavy files benefit from a size reduction first. Run the model through Reduce IFC File Size — the Light preset keeps geometry, properties, and materials and removes only redundant data — then view the smaller output. Splitting a huge federation by storey or discipline is the other proven fix for models that have outgrown smooth viewing.
Can I edit properties or geometry in the viewer?
No — the viewer is deliberately read-only, so opening a file never changes it. To change property values, use the Edit Property Sets tool (or the IFC-to-Excel round trip for bulk edits); to remove elements, use Delete IFC Elements. All of them accept the same upload, so switching tools doesn't mean re-uploading.
Can I share the model with someone who has no BIM software?
Yes — the Share IFC File tool generates a read-only link that opens this same viewer in the recipient's browser, with no account or install needed on their side. Pro and Team accounts can add a password and an expiration date to the link.
What happens to my file after processing?
Your file is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on our servers. Guest uploads are stream-only — the working files are deleted as soon as your download finishes. Free accounts keep results for 7 days; Pro and Team keep saved models until you delete them. Files are never shared with third parties or used to train AI.
