How to Combine Multiple IFC Files Into One Model
Need to merge architecture, structure, and MEP into a single file? Here is how to combine IFC files in a few clicks.
On most projects the architect, structural engineer, and MEP designer each produce their own IFC file. Reviewing them together usually means loading three separate files into a viewer and hoping they line up.
A simpler approach: merge them into one file
- Upload all the IFC files you want to combine.
- Open the Merge Files tool.
- Select which files to include.
- Click Run. BIMCamel will combine them into a single IFC file with all elements preserved.
Tips for a clean merge
- Make sure all files use the same coordinate system. If one model is offset, use Fix Coordinates first.
- After merging, run IFC Viewer to confirm element counts and storeys look correct.
- You can merge files from different IFC versions (IFC2x3 and IFC4) as long as they describe the same project.
Merged files are useful for clash detection, quantity takeoff, and handing over a single "as-built" model to the client.
