One file in, the parts coordination actually asked for. Split Model takes the axis you name — storey, building, IFC class, or an arbitrary property expression — and writes one IFC per part, each with its own intact spatial structure. The structural team gets levels 3 to 7. The façade subcontractor gets the curtain walls. Nobody gets a 4,000-wall file they have to carve up themselves.

Merge that survives merging

Every IfcRelDefinesByProperties, classification and material association comes across, and colliding GlobalIds resolve deterministically so the result stays traceable to its inputs.

Fix the structure itself

Reassign elements stuck on the wrong storey, rename in bulk, edit psets across thousands of elements, correct a georeference somebody set once in 2019.

Schema, both directions

Upgrade IFC2x3 to IFC4 when a platform demands it — or downgrade IFC4 to 2x3 for an older consumer, with a report of exactly what was lost.

How it works

  1. Bring the files. One model to split, or several to merge. The workspace holds what you already uploaded.
  2. Name the axis. Storey, building, class — or build a property expression in the search builder and split on that.

The pset the IDS wants

The spec demands a property that 4,000 walls don't have. Adding it by hand is a day. Adding it in bulk is a run.

Where it stops

  • IFC4 → IFC2x3 is lossy by definition. The downgrade tells you what it dropped, but it can't keep it.
  • Merging federates; it doesn't deduplicate. Two consultants who both modelled the same slab give you two slabs.
  • Splitting by property is only as good as the property. If the model doesn't carry discipline metadata, split by class or by storey instead.

FAQ

Can I split by something other than floor?

Yes. Split Model accepts storey, building, IFC class, or any custom property as the split axis. The Find / Search Builder lets you carve the model by an arbitrary property expression first and then pipe the matched set into Split or Delete.

Will merging preserve property sets and classifications?

Yes. Merge keeps every IfcRelDefinesByProperties, classification, and material association from the source files. Conflicting GlobalIds are resolved deterministically so the merged model stays traceable to its inputs.

Can I run an organise pipeline across a folder of revisions?

Yes. Save the chain (Split → Add Psets → Health Check, or whatever your project needs) in the Automate tab and drop a folder. Each file goes through the same pipeline, with one row per source in the result table.

Does any of this need a desktop install?

No. Splitting, merging, and pset editing all run in the browser on the same workspace as the rest of the BIMCamel platform — no desktop BIM tool needed.
