Share IFC, RVT, NWD File
Generate a shareable link so others can open the model in a read-only viewer. Pro+ can add a password, expiration, and send by email.
Besides IFC, this tool takes Revit (.rvt) and Navisworks (.nwd) files, with no Revit or Navisworks licence. Drop one in and it is converted to IFC first, then the tool runs on that IFC; your original file is not changed.
Share an IFC model with a link — upload the file, generate a share link, and send it. Whoever you send it to opens the model in a read-only 3D viewer in their browser: no BIMCamel account, no Navisworks, no IFC viewer to install. They can orbit, section, measure, and read properties, but they can't download the IFC itself.
It's the answer to the file that's too big to email and the client who doesn't run BIM software. Instead of zipping a 300 MB IFC, wrestling it past a mailbox attachment limit, or asking a stakeholder to install a viewer, you send a URL. Sharing needs a free account — the model has to stay available while the link is live — and the link stays up for your tier's retention window.
Example: Send a stakeholder a read-only view of your coordinated model without uploading to their system.
What the recipient sees
The link opens the same in-browser viewer BIMCamel uses everywhere, in read-only mode, with the project tree and properties panel alongside the 3D view. Your recipient gets a real review surface, not a flat thumbnail — but they can't download the source IFC, and they don't need an account or any software to open it. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS, and iPad, in any modern browser:
- Project tree — navigate the spatial hierarchy (project → site → building → storey) and a by-class view, and show or hide branches to focus on part of the model.
- Properties — click any element to read its property sets, quantities, and material data.
- Levels — jump to any storey and get a plan view cut just above it.
- Sections — cut live section planes through the model along any axis.
- Measure — take length, area, and angle measurements in metric or imperial units.
- Display — isolate, ghost, colour by class, or switch backgrounds to read a model that's hard to see.
Password and expiry
A free account share link comes with an auto-generated password and expires at the end of your retention window — 7 days on the free tier. Pro and Team accounts can set a custom password (or make it a public, no-password link that anyone with the URL can view) and a custom expiration date, capped to the tier's retention window — which is unlimited on Pro and Team, so a link can stay live as long as you want it to.
The password gates the viewer load, not just the download: a recipient without it sees a password prompt and can't open the 3D view or fetch the geometry at all, so the model is never exposed through the link without the password first.
Send it by email — or just copy the link
Every share produces a URL you can copy and paste anywhere. Pro accounts can also have BIMCamel email the link to themselves, and Team accounts can send it to a list of recipients — clients, reviewers, teammates — up to 15 per job, with a one-click "Everyone on my team" quick-add. Because you're sending a link and not a file, the mailbox attachment-size limits that block a big IFC don't apply.
From viewing to sharing — one upload
The share link fronts the same viewer as the rest of BIMCamel, so the model you're sharing is one click from everything else — no re-upload. Open it in the BCF issues tool to track and assign issues, diff it against last week's file with Compare IFC Files, or export it to glTF for a lightweight 3D handoff. For a live, two-way review rather than a read-only link, a collaboration room lets invited people comment on the model together.
Using it on Revit and Navisworks files
When you open a .rvt or a .nwd file here, BIMCamel converts it to IFC on the server and brings you back to this tool with the converted model loaded. Element ids, levels and properties come across under their Revit and Navisworks names, so pick properties as they appear in your model. Your .rvt or .nwd itself is never edited: a tool that changes the model gives you an IFC back.
Revit files can be up to 25 MB without an account, 100 MB with a free one and 200 MB on a paid plan. Navisworks files can be up to 25 MB without an account, 100 MB with a free one and 200 MB on a paid plan, and they open in the browser viewer at the same sizes. Revit projects saved in Revit 2021 to 2027 are supported.
Under the hood
BIMCamel parses IFC files in the browser using the open-source web-ifc engine and renders models with @thatopen/components + three.js. Heavy operations (clean / optimise / validate / convert) run on disposable server-side workers using the same web-ifc stack plus our own .NET pipeline; results stream back to your browser as soon as they're ready. Uploads sit on our servers only as long as your tier's retention window allows and are never used to train AI.
Frequently asked questions
How do I share an IFC file without sending the file?
Upload the model and generate a share link. You send a URL, not the IFC — the recipient opens the model in a read-only 3D viewer in their browser, so there's no attachment to bounce off a mailbox size limit and nothing for them to install.
Does the recipient need an account or BIM software?
No. The link opens the model in a read-only browser viewer with no account and no install on their side. They can orbit, section, measure, and read properties — but they can't download the source IFC.
Can the recipient change or edit the model?
No — the shared viewer is read-only. Recipients can navigate the project tree, cut sections, take measurements, and read properties, but they can't edit geometry or properties and can't download the IFC. Nothing they do changes your file.
Which IFC versions can I share?
IFC2x3, IFC4, and IFC4.3 — the schema versions exported by essentially every AEC authoring application. The recipient opens whichever schema your model uses in the same browser viewer, no conversion needed.
Do I need an account to share a file?
Yes, a free account. Share links are tied to an account so the model stays available while the link is live; guests use tools in stream-only mode, so there's nothing kept to share. Creating the account is free and needs no card.
Can I password-protect a share link or set it to expire?
A free account link gets an auto-generated password and expires at the end of the 7-day free retention window. Pro and Team can set a custom password (or a public no-password link) and a custom expiration date, capped to the tier's retention window — which is unlimited on Pro and Team.
How long does a share link stay live?
For your tier's retention window: 7 days on a free account, unlimited on Pro and Team (so the link lasts until you delete it or its expiration date passes). The model has to stay stored for the link to work, which is why retention and link lifetime match.
Can I email the link to several people?
Pro accounts can have BIMCamel email the link to themselves. Team accounts can send it to a list of recipients — up to 15 per job — with a one-click "Everyone on my team" add. On any tier you can always copy the URL and share it however you like.
Is a shared model secure?
The link is served over HTTPS, the recipient can only view the model (never download the IFC), and when a password is set it gates the viewer load itself — someone without it sees a prompt and can't open the 3D view or fetch the geometry at all. The share also stops working once its expiration passes or the model leaves your retention window.
What's the maximum IFC file size?
Up to 25 MB as a guest, 100 MB with a free account, 500 MB on Pro, and 1 GB on Team. The caps are on upload size only — every tool itself is available on every tier.
What happens to my file after processing?
Your file is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on our servers. Guest uploads are stream-only — the working files are deleted as soon as your download finishes. Free accounts keep results for 7 days; Pro and Team keep saved models until you delete them. Files are never shared with third parties or used to train AI.
Is Share IFC File free?
Yes. Share IFC File is free to use — guests get 3 runs a day with 25 MB uploads, and a free account raises that to 10 runs a day with 100 MB uploads. No trial clock, no watermarks.
Can I use a Revit or Navisworks file with Share IFC, RVT, NWD File?
Yes. Open a .rvt or .nwd file and it is converted to IFC first; the tool then runs on that IFC and your original file is not changed.
