Navisworks: Camera

9 nodes. Types ending in [] are lists. An input with a default is optional.

Camera.Current

The current camera position, focal distance and vertical field height, read again on every run. To keep the whole camera and put it back later, use Camera.Save and Camera.Restore.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera is read when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type
position Point
focalDistance number
heightField number

Returns: Camera position, focal distance (null when unset) and vertical field height.

Camera.LookAt

Moves the camera to 'eye' looking at 'target' (up stays +Z). Wire the output of the node that must run before this one into 'after'.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
eye required any — Camera position: a Point, or a list of three numbers.
target required any — Point to look at: a Point, or a list of three numbers.
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera moves when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
done boolean True when the camera was moved.

Camera.Restore

Puts a camera back on the current view: the viewpoint kept by Camera.Save, or a saved viewpoint. Only the camera moves; it does not undo hidden items or colour overrides (use Appearance.ShowAll and Appearance.ResetTemporary for those). Wire the last node that moves the camera into 'after' so this one runs at the end.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
viewpoint required any — The camera to restore: the viewpoint from Camera.Save, or a saved viewpoint (its camera is used).
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera moves when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
done boolean True when the camera was restored.

Camera.Save

Keeps a copy of the current camera inside the graph (nothing is added to the Saved Viewpoints window; for that use Viewpoint.Save). Put it before the nodes that move the camera (Camera.ZoomToItems, SavedViewpoint.Apply, Camera.SetStandardView ...) and wire its viewpoint into Camera.Restore at the end, so the graph leaves the view as it found it. The copy is taken when this node runs: wire what must happen before it into 'after'.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera is read when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
viewpoint Viewpoint A copy of the current camera (position, direction, projection and field of view).

Camera.SetFieldOfView

Sets the camera's vertical field of view in degrees (perspective camera) — smaller = more zoomed/telephoto, larger = wider. Wire the output of the node that must run before this one into 'after'.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
degrees required number — Vertical field of view in degrees (typical 20–90). Applies to the perspective camera.
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera changes when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
done boolean True when the field of view was set.

Camera.SetProjection

Switches the camera between perspective (true) and orthographic (false) projection. Wire the output of the node that must run before this one into 'after'.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
perspective required boolean — True for perspective, false for orthographic.
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera changes when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
done boolean True when the projection was set.

Camera.SetStandardView

Sets the camera to a standard view (top, bottom, front, back, left, right, iso) and frames the given items — or the whole model when none are wired. Convention: Z is up and +Y is north, so top is a plan with north at the top of the screen, front looks north from the south side, left looks east from the west side, and iso looks from the south-east above. Assumes a Z-up model; for others use Camera.LookAt. Wire the output of the node that must run before this one into 'after'.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
view string "iso" One of top, bottom, front, back, left, right, iso.
items any number of wires ModelItem[] null The items to frame (leave unwired to frame the whole model).
paddingFactor number 1.2 Space to leave around the framed box (1 = tight fit).
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera moves when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
viewpoint Viewpoint A copy of the new current viewpoint (feed it to nodes that take a viewpoint, or save it with Viewpoint.Save).

Camera.ZoomToItems

Frames the given items in the current view (per-item close-ups, screenshot staging). Wire the output of the node that must run before this one into 'after'.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
items any number of wires required ModelItem[] — The model items to frame.
paddingFactor number 1.5 How much space to leave around the items (1 = tight fit).
after any null Anything at all, only to run this node after the node it comes from: the camera moves when this node runs, and the engine does not order nodes that share no wire.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
done boolean True when the camera was moved.

Viewpoint.SetSectionBox

Applies a section box around a region on the current view (Sectioning > Box, scriptable) — chain ModelItem.BoundingBox for the clash-viewpoint close-up look. enabled=false turns sectioning off. It works on Navisworks 2024 only: on 2025 and 2026 the node stops with a message, because the section-box call differs there. It acts on the view like the Camera nodes (hence its place under Camera): set the box first, then save the view with Viewpoint.Save.

Inputs

Input Type Default What it does
boundingBox required any — The box region, in document units (e.g. from ModelItem.BoundingBox or BoundingBox.ByCorners). Ignored when enabled is false.
enabled boolean true True to section to the box, false to disable sectioning.
document Document null The document (defaults to the active document).

Outputs

Output Type What it gives
done boolean True when the clip planes were applied to the current view.
